Kaffara Episode 40: Scene: Living Room

Sitara: (Softly) We didn’t back out. Ask her, she’s standing right here. I told her, I told her to call you, but she was stubborn about Salman.

Salar: (Angrily) No, no, you are lying. She wouldn’t want that. What do you want, hmm? Why are you doing all this? Why did you hold his hand?

Sitara: (Defensive) Whose hand?

Salar: (Firmly) Salman’s. Yesterday, in front of everyone, you held his hand and left with him. You have no right to ask about that, understand?

Salar: (Frustrated) Whether I have the right or not, how could you hold someone else’s hand?

Sitara: (Defiant) Who are you to ask this?

Salar: (Sharply) Oh? And you know who I am, right? Hmm? So, end this drama. You gave me your word, you can’t back out, do you understand?

Mom: (Confused) What did he just say?

Son: (Angry) Ask her, I don’t know. At home, she created such a scene, and outside, she was holding Salman’s hand and roaming around.

Sitara: (Desperate) Sitara, tell me, what does he want?

Salar: (Softly) Don’t worry, Mr. Shaukat. I’m saying, as Najma says, just quietly get the wedding done quickly.

Son: (Worried) Will he let that happen? Like Qasim and Majid, he’ll also get Salman out of the way.

Salar: (Sighs) Hello? Can you come home? Right now? Oh, do you have to go to university?

Salar: (Softly) Salar came by.

Sitara: (Surprised) To the house? Can you come over?

Salar: (Firmly) Yeah, yeah, I can come, but you should come out. Let's go for breakfast, maybe at a coffee shop. I will pick you up.

Sitara: (Reluctantly) Why can't you come here?

Salar: (Hesitant) Well, the thing is, Aunt is at home, and she makes everything awkward. I need to talk to you in front of her. Please, just come over.

Sitara: (Softly) Okay, fine. Okay, bye.

Mom: (Curious) Did you call Salman?

Salar: (Firmly) Yes.

Sitara: (Reflective) After my death, he repented for his betrayal.

Salar: (Frustrated) Oh, the interest of the deceitful one!

Sitara: (Bitterly) It's not interest, it's deceit. You are paying it like it is interest, something you keep paying off, paying off, and it just keeps increasing, right?

Salar: (Angrily) Why did you hold his hand?

Sitara: (Confused) Whose hand?

Salar: (Frustrated) Salman's. Yesterday, in front of everyone, you held his hand and left with him. You have no right to ask that, understand?

Sitara: (Defiant) Whether I have the right or not, how could you hold someone else's hand?

Salar: (Sharply) Who are you to ask?

Sitara: (Firmly) Oh? And you know who I am, right? Hmm? So, let's end this drama. You gave me your word, you can't back out, understand?

Mom: (Sighs) By the way, Mr. Mirza, there's something I don't quite understand. Tahir called Salar back but didn't even bother to inform us.

Dad: (Calmly) I'm not surprised that Tahir called his son back. What surprises me is how Salar returned at his request.

Sitara: (Curious) Who asked him to come back, Dad?

Dad: (Smiling) How are you, sweetie?

Sitara: (Smiling) I'm fine. Tell me, Dad, who asked Salar to come back?

Dad: (Thoughtfully) Oh, child, Tahir made a merger deal with a Chinese company, and he is handing over the lead to Salar.

Sitara: (Surprised) Oh, but Mazhar's agreement hasn't even been finalized yet. So, how could Salar leave everything behind and come back in just two days?

Dad: (Nods) Oh, he didn't come back in just two days. Mehreen told me that he had been wanting to call him back for quite a while. He wrapped everything up there and returned with proper planning.

Sitara: (Reflectively) That means the planning has been going on for a while, but they didn't think it was necessary to inform us.

Dad: (Thoughtfully) Exactly, but I don't think Salar knew.

Sitara: (Gently) Maybe that's why he came back so eagerly.

Dad: (Sighs) That's what I think too, sweetie. He probably came back thinking he was doing something big for us, but little did he know that there was already a plot against him.

Sitara: (Nods) Right, Dad, now I understand why he seemed so disappointed.
