In Hyderabad, the passing of Syeda Anita Shah Lakyari, a distinguished columnist, anchor, and educationist, marks the end of an era. At the age of 49, Lakyari succumbed to the challenges posed by Alzheimer's, exacerbated by the profound grief from the tragic loss of her brother in an accident and the subsequent demise of her parents.A graduate of Sindh University, Lakyari
earned her Master of Business Administration and Master of Sociology degrees in
1998 and 2002, respectively. She further enriched her knowledge through a
fellowship program at the University of Maryland, USA, in 2007.
Lakyari's impactful career began with an
early foray into column writing, contributing to Sindhi daily Kawish in 1994
with a keen focus on advocating for women's rights. Her influence also extended
to the media industry, where she hosted talk shows on a Sindhi news television
channel and worked as a reporter and producer for the Voice of America's Beyond
Headlines in 2007.
Her dedication to public service was
evident as she served as a Section Officer in the Sindh government, later
assuming the role of Deputy Secretary in the Sindh Culture Department in 2001.
In 2006, highlighting her commitment to social causes, Lakyari established a
non-governmental organization dedicated to rural uplift.
The final resting place of this
remarkable individual is in the Wanki Wassi area graveyard in Hatri, Hyderabad.
Her funeral prayers were offered in Qasimabad, marking a somber farewell to a
woman who made significant contributions to education, journalism, and societal
well-being.
