In 2023, Islamabad International Airport
achieved an unprecedented milestone, experiencing an exceptional surge in
passenger traffic, as reported by the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA).
A PCAA spokesperson revealed that the airport set a historic record by
facilitating six million passengers through arrivals or departures on local and
foreign flights. This figure represents the highest number of passengers
recorded since the airport's establishment.
Further details indicate that 1.5 million
passengers were served through 11,000 domestic flights, while over 4.5 million
passengers utilized 20,000 international flights during the same period. The
cumulative passenger count was distributed among 31,000 flights that transited
through the airport in the previous year.
The PCAA spokesperson emphasized that
this significant upsurge underscores the efficiency of the airport,
contributing to regional growth. Authorities are actively engaged in efforts to
maintain and enhance the airport's services to meet the growing demands of
travelers in the coming years.
