Muslims around the world are eagerly
awaiting the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan in March 2024, with
astronomers predicting the first fast in Saudi Arabia on March 11th. The
unusual timing, coinciding with the winter season for the first time in 26
years, brings longer fasting hours, ranging from 12 to over 17 hours globally.
Ibrahim Al-Jarwan, Chairman of the
Emirates Astronomical Society, explains that the shift from the typical
spring/summer timing will result in fasting durations of 13 to 15 hours in
Saudi Arabia and Egypt, depending on one's location. Astronomical calculations
also point to Eidul Fitr, the joyous celebration marking the end of Ramadan,
likely falling on April 10th or 11th in Saudi Arabia. As Muslims worldwide
prepare for a month of spiritual reflection, fasting, and community gatherings,
the diverse fasting times underscore the global unity and shared spiritual
experience of Ramadan.
